Shropshire Scale Model Show @ RAFM Cosford

Rheintochter R-1 at the RAFM Cosford Museum.

A two-stage solid fuel rocket introduced in 1944 used in the surface-to-air role, it’s certainly a looker with it’s 10 wooden fins and 4 control paddles up on the top. I’ve taken these photos for the newly released Bronco 1/35th kit, one that will be hitting my bench in the future.

V2 missile at RAFM Cosford

With the new V2 hitting our shelves, I thought I would get over to Cosford to get some photos of the V2 mounted to the trailer there, sadly there isn’t a Hanomag to go with it and it’s not in a position where I can get 360° access for photos as it’s tight against the hangar doors.

Hopefully though, the photos can be of some use to someone. I’m not 100% sure on how original it is, and the V2 itself looks a bit battered but I’m putting that down to the age as I can’t imagine they would look like that new. Some useful parts shown in the photos, as the surface on the kit is smoothed with flush rivets, but you can clearly see sections with raised rivets, whether you would want to replicate this though is another question.

RAF Cosford Conservation Centre..

My annual visit to the RAFM Cosford Conservation Centre, this time it was the week after Scale Model World rather than before like previous years. Some lovely bits on display and good progress made on the Vickers Wellington Mk10B bomber, Handley Page Hampden and the recovered German Dornier 17Z Bomber. Also on show was a Gnat and something that the name has escaped me (answers on a postcard), the little WW1 aircraft that was tucked away, great to see…

It was quite hard getting a clear photo as there was lots of people wandering around, but I will let the photos do the talking.
